RUMOR: is another MLP format change coming?
All eyes are on the mid-season tournament
With the next MLP event around the corner - the Mid-Season Tournament at Beer City Open - could we see a change of playoff format for the event?
On Monday, MLP owners will be meeting to discuss just that. It has been proposed to change the structure to be a round robin for Premier teams, and double-elimination bracket for Challenger.
Some MLP teams have expressed that they will not attend the event if it goes forward using the existing format. Currently, the Mid-Season Tournament is planned to be a full double-elimination bracket, pitting Challenger and Premier teams against one another.
Is the push to change motivated by the prize money on the line? Or are teams simply hoping to prove themselves amongst their same-caliber teams? After all - for the money invested, do Challenger teams stand a real chance against a Premier counterpart? Would Premier teams face embarrassment if they lose to a Challenger team?
Beer City Open and the Mid-Season Tournament takes place July 10-14 in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
