It’s been 38 days since the last PPA tour stop in San Clemente. It’s been so long, we practically forgot it exists! (Kidding - who could forget?)

The Selkirk KC Open tournament follows on the heels of MLP, with a couple days’ cushion in between for athletes to rest, and to reset the venue. This event is not a progressive draw, so it kicks off with singles on Thursday, August 8th (which also falls on National Pickleball Day).

Here are the storylines we’re watching:

• Tyler’s only event this time around is men’s doubles with UBD teammate Connor Garnett. Dippin’ Dots if we win, cheesecake if we don’t.

• Andrei’s return. BORING. What’s to say? He’s been lackluster in MLP since he came off his suspension, but maybe he’ll wow us all again.

• We’re ready for the triumphant return of Matt & Lucy after their MLP-free summer vacation

• Jessie & Koop are pairing up in women’s doubles - will there be bad blood after the Carolina fallout?

• The usual suspects are returning in mixed (Ben/ALW, JW/Jorja), but with James and Anna missing this tournament, and Thomas Wilson still injured (or sick?), we see some interesting partnerships. Catherine dumped Jack Sock in favor of Fed, Vivienne David is partnering with Yates Johnson in Thomas’s absence, while Collin Johns plays with “his” prodigy, Tina Pisnk. Don’t feel too sad for Jack, though; he’s teaming up with his NY Hustlers partner Lea Jansen.

• In what is traditionally the most boring, predictable bracket, women’s singles should be exciting as ALW is sitting out this event. Still, expect Catherine and Lea to meet in the finals, but matches should be highly competitive and worth a watch.

• Ben appears to have surrendered his #1 status to Fed for the year, as he’s opting out of singles. Expect Fed to continue to rack up points, widening his lead over Ben in the overall rankings. (Does Ben even care?)
