PPA Finals: Preview
Watch the top-finishing pros compete in the final leg of The Race
CIBC Finals: The Best of the Best face off
It’s the last event of the 2024 season (Daytona Beach Open later this month counts toward 2025’s season) and culmination of The Race, a calendar-year-long event that offers top spots to the highest point earners.
Pools & Partnerships
Starting at the top of the chart, players picked their partners from among the other qualifying players. A few players had to opt out due to injury or personal reasons, opening up a spot for the next highest ranked player.
Unlike other PPA events, this will be two pools of round-robin play (“ATP Pool” and “Erne Pool”). In each discipline, players/teams will compete in a best-of-3 match (one match per day, Wed-Fri). Top 2 from each pool advance to semi-finals, with final ranking determined by most wins, followed by head-to-head matchup results. #1 of one pool will play #2 of the other pool, and vice versa. There will be no bronze-medal match.
Injury Update
Since the initial pool announcement, Etta Wright has had to withdraw from Finals, we presume for a nagging injury she experienced at MLP Finals. Mary Brascia will take her place in women’s doubles, playing alongside Meghan Dizon. In mixed doubles, Meghan Dizon will fill in for Etta, partnering with James Ignatowich.
Hours ago, PPA posted new matchup schedules on their socials that showed Lacy Schneeman replacing Salome Devidze and Jorja replacing Brooke Buckner in singles (let the speculation begin…). No other changes detected on the men’s side, but Tyson loves a good day-of scratch, so we’ll see.
