MLP Waiver recap - Premier & Challenger

Are the Ranchers in it to win it?

The first waiver period of MLP’s 2024 season is now complete, with Premier picking yesterday, June 20th, and Challenger picking today, June 21st. As we reported, there were a few trades ahead of the Premier waiver period, which gave the Texas Ranchers in the first pick. As it turns out, they were the only Premier team that opted to pick up a new player, taking Quang Duong in place of Martin Emmrich. Quang made quite a showing at the DC event, having been passed over in the 2024 MLP draft, subbing for an injured Christian Alshon.

Day 2 proved to be much more interesting as several Challenger teams made moves. As a reminder, teams had to pick up available players from the undrafted player list (with or without a current MLP contract, though anyone without a contract would have to sign one before being allowed to play in upcoming events). A few pick trades happened during the Challenger waiver event, and went as follows:

  • After the first two picks, Miami Pickleball Club traded their 5th place spot to SoCal Hard 8’s for the 3rd place spot, plus cash

  • SoCal Hard 8’s traded this 5th pick to Bay Area Breakers in exchange for the 9th pick

  • In a third move, SoCal Hard 8’s traded their Round 2, Pick 3 spot to Brooklyn Aces in exchange for Round 1, Pick 9.

With these moves in place, the following roster moves were made:
