MLP Invades the Big Apple

MLP is back, baby!

After five back-to-back PPA tournaments, you could say we’re ready for some team spirit again. Tomorrow, the Hertz MLP New York City tournament kicks off - MLP’s fifth regular-season event, and the first time MLP has hit the stage in the Big Apple. CityPickle at the iconic Wollman Rink in Central Park is the host for the event, situated at the heart of the city.

Twelve teams (6 premier, 6 challenger) face off, including “home town” teams New Jersey 5s, New York Hustlers, and Brooklyn Aces. Here are the teams participating, and their current by-points standing:

Premier Level Teams
Carolina Pickleball Club (9), Columbus Sliders (11), D.C. Pickleball Team (5), New Jersey 5s (6), NY Hustlers (4), Utah Black Diamonds (12)

Challenger Level Teams
Brooklyn Aces (4), Chicago Slice (8), Florida Smash (10), Frisco Pandas (6), Las Vegas Night Owls (5), Miami Pickleball Club (9)

People love to say that “no one wins,” or “nothing is at stake” at an MLP event, but remember that teams are vying for a spot in the end-of-year playoffs (just like - every other sport?). Only the top 6 in each level will make it to the playoffs - and Challenger teams who finish in the top 2 move up to Premier next year. So if you ask us, quite a lot is at stake.
