Sweetie, wake up! Leigh Waters is back!

She's signed up to play Daytona with daughter Anna Leigh

Leigh Waters… back?

Do our eyes deceive us, or has Leigh Waters signed up to play in Daytona Beach next week? Is this foreshadowing of what’s to come in 2025, since the Daytona Open is the official first event of the season? We know that a bunch of players were auto-opted into this event a few months back, but Tuesday was the registration deadline so the matchups and players are locked in now.

Leigh is set to play women’s doubles with Anna Leigh, and mixed doubles with Dillon Segur, Pro Player Director for the PPA. Maybe she’s just getting reps for her senior pro career?

Also in Daytona Beach

Oh Snap! Daytona Beach Open is going to be a quieter event, with many big names (like Tyler) sitting this one out. Based on the “guest list” it appears some players are going to take advantage of an early opportunity to start on points for the 2025 PPA year, or are just taking their shot at the finals with a smaller pool. Or, they just don’t know how to rest (Fed?). Here are some of the players and partnerships we’ll be watching:

  • Men’s Doubles (only 14 teams registered): Matt Wright & AJ (first-time partnership); Fed & Hayden (undefeated together); Andrei & CJ Klinger (also a first-time partnership. Can they carry some of their MLP magic over?)

  • Men’s Singles: Fed (of course), Augie Ge (our second favorite lefty), and everyone’s favorite ice cream hound, Ryan Sherry.

  • Women’s Doubles: Dallas Flash crown jewels Tyra & Jorja; first-time partners Lea Jansen & Kate Fahey; Anna Bright & Jackie Kawamoto; and of course - the return of Leigh & Anna Leigh.

  • Women’s Singles: Lea and Salome, who both sat out PPA Finals, are returning; Genie Bouchard (could she make a deep run like she did in Vegas?); Kaitlyn Christian (can she get the elusive gold medal?). Notably absent is Anna Leigh, who is only playing women’s dubs.

  • Mixed Doubles: Lots of fun new and re-newed partnerships here! Anna Bright & Dekel Bar; Hayden & Jorja (surprising he didn’t partner again with AB); AJ & Meghan Dizon (how many times will Fleming say “partners on AND off the court”?); Fed & Kate Fahey (knocked out in R16 in Milwaukee, their only other partnership); Leigh Waters & Dillon Segur (should be interesting!)
