What You Missed on Day 4

It was an exhilarating (and sweltering) day to say the least, with many hotly contested matches. If you weren’t watching, what were you even doing?

  • MLP record-setting score - In the Squeeze matchup with the Hustlers, McGuffin-Todd vs. Klinger-Kawamoto hit an unbelievable 40-38 score, which is the highest game score in MLP history. The match ended in a Dreambreaker, won by the Squeeze 26-24.

  • Top dog Shock get taken down - DC stunned 1st seed Shock in a Dreambreaker-ending match that saw a now-rare battle between James Ignatovich and Anna Bright on opposite ends of the court. Anna won the battle, but James’ team won the war. DC goes on to play in Championship Sunday while the Shock will battle for 3rd.

  • ESPN2 match - it was an electric match between NJ 5s (and crowd-favorite Anna Leigh) playing on ESPN2 against Dallas Flash (backed by their raucous fan base, the Flash Mob). It was an absolute battle for every point, but JW struggled in the high-scoring mixed matchup with Jorja against Zane and Mari, which ended 30-28. Flash’s momentum fizzled out, and they lost the subsequent match when Anna Leigh and Will Howells went up against Hurricane Tyra and Augie Ge.

  • Flash close it out - The last match of the day, in the consolation bracket, saw Orlando Squeeze take on Dallas Flash. You’d think it was a championship match, the way both teams fought so hard for every point. This well-balanced matchup ended in a Dreambreaker 21-16 to the Flash, who go on to play for 3rd place.

Storylines to watch on Day 5:

You will NOT want to miss this Championship Sunday! There are many exciting matches in the lineup, and of course, money for the winning teams is on the line. As they say: MLP, there’s NOTHING else like it!

  • ESPN2 Exclusive. When you’re looking for the biggest match of the weekend, the Premier Championship between DC Pickleball Team and the NJ 5s, it will be broadcast exclusively on ESPN2 (no simultaneous broadcast on PBTV or YT). Expect the crowd to be on fire as the G.O.A.T. herself takes her team to battle for the $80k prize.

  • LV Night Owls undefeated. Las Vegas has yet to lose a match in any MLP event this year. Will they keep the streak alive, and take home the Challenger $30k prize pool?

  • No boring 3rd place matches. Even in the consolation bracket, teams have been playing their hearts out to make it this far in the tournament. Expect more of the same as Miami takes on the SoCal Hard Eights, and we get a Lone Star Showdown re-match between the Texas Ranchers and Dallas Flash.
