BCO Day 1: Storylines, Schedule, and a Rain-out plan

Table of Contents

MLP’s Mid-Season Tournament at Beer City Open starts tomorrow with Challenger teams facing off.

Storylines to watch on Day 1:

  • Where’s Jimmy? Well, we know he’ll be on the sidelines watching his California Black Bears take on beloved podcast rival Travis Rettenmeier’s Florida Smash. CBB will have fresh blood with Michelle Esquivel (subbing for newly signed Susannah Barr) and Brandon French; the Smash have Yates Johnson. We’re expecting a chirp-fest with lots of on-court intensity.

  • Aces’ Ace Up the Sleeve. No doubt Pablo Tellez has something to prove after slipping from Premier to Challenger in last month’s waiver period, when he was traded to the Brooklyn Aces by the Texas Ranchers. He’s still a very strong player who is helping stack the deck for this event.

  • Waiver Wire Newbies. Keep your eye on several exciting newcomers who were picked up in waiver rounds: Bobbi Oshiro and Noe Khlif (Miami), Brandon French (CBB), Megan Fudge (Slice), Yates Johnson (Smash), and Yana Newell (Hard 8s).

What’s the Rain-out Plan?

Rain is bearing down on Grand Rapids, and BCO tournament director Andrea Koop has officially made the call to move the day’s events indoors.

Wednesday’s matches will now be held at All-in Pickleball indoor club, beginning at 1 p.m. ET, using a “followed-by” schedule. Teams will play in the same chronological time order as below (noting CBB-Smash follows Slice-Hard Eights).

Because there are no cameras set up at the indoor facility, there will be no video challenges, and unfortuantely matches will not be streamed.

Instead, follow live scoring updates on MLP’s website.
